Carlton Keighley Teaching Assistant Shortlisted for National Award at Teaching Oscars

Carlton Keighley’s Esta Bernardini has been shortlisted for the ‘Teaching Assistant of the Year’ at the 2022 BBC/Pearson National Teaching Awards, commonly referred to as ‘The Oscars of Teaching’.

Esta has already been awarded the highly prestigious ‘Silver Award’ for those attaining the very highest standards in the profession, and as such is amongst a very small shortlist to take the ‘Gold Award’ as overall winner which will be announced in a gala dinner later this year televised by the BBC.

She was nominated for the award by one of the visually impaired children she works with at the school, in recognition of the way she has gone above and beyond expectations in supporting him during his time at the school.

Understandably, Esta was thrilled at the news commenting ‘I’m thoroughly honoured to have been nominated for this award. Working at such a supportive academy where staff have amazing insights and understanding of the needs of all pupils, makes this role my dream job!’

Head of School Mark Turvey acknowledged her sterling work over many years “Throughout her time as a Teaching Assistant at Carlton Keighley, Esta has made an incredible contribution to school life, working tirelessly with students to achieve excellence for all.  I am incredibly proud of her’.
