Trip to Keasden Farm Malham (to plant trees)

Mr Calveley and Miss Marketa took a group of 15 students (8 Year 10 Prince’s Trust students and 7 New to English students) in a minibus to Keasden Farm in the Yorkshire Dales to plant trees as a part of the Green Guardians Project, which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and aimed at young people.  The students learned how to plant trees by using the right tools and products and how long it takes for trees to grow into big mature trees.  They all learned of the importance of wearing appropriate clothing including walking boots and working gloves.  The students planted around 70 trees on the farm land and demonstrated a good team work.  The students also got...

Young Chef Competition

  On Saturday 18th November, our very own Year 10 student, James Gibson, competed in the Regional Young Chef Competition at Leeds City College. This competition was organised and promoted by Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland and sponsored by Filippo Berio. A fantastic panel of judges included MasterChef finalists Afsaneh Kaviani and Matt Healy, Tom Martin of Eric’s Pies, Ossett   CEO and Owner of Aagrah Group Dr Aslam MBE DL, and Bruce D’Agoia of Keelham Farm Shop. Also in attendance was the Lord Mayor of Leeds, DG Robert Morphet, Andrew Wilson (Rotary District 1040 Youth) and Gillian Poole (Rotary Young Chef District 1040 Officer). Science Show – Performed by National Science Museum ( London)

On Thursday 9th November in the afternoon over 200 year 9 students had the opportunity to experience a thrilling science show delivered by the National Science Museum (London).  This was a 50 minute show which included a number of different experiments aimed to create awe and wonder for the world of science. This visually eye-catching show has strong links to the National Curriculum as well as links to space and the Soyuz capsule (this is the capsule in which the famous British astronaut Tim Peakes travelled to the International Space station and back).
