Duke of Edinburgh success for Y9 and 10 pupils

Under the beating sun of the July heat wave, 30 pupils from Year 9, 10 and sixth form accompanied by Mr Calverley and his Duke of Edinburgh staff headed to the Dales. Following a successful training weekend where pupils honed their navigation, tent building and team work skills, the pupils were left to their own devices in order to pass their Bronze assessment. Setting off on Saturday morning, they navigated a route across the side of Whernside, one the famous three peaks, battled hot temperatures and limped into camp ready to recover for Sunday’s route. The Formal Opening of the Carlton Cricket Academy

  The formal opening of the Carlton Cricket Academy, our second sports Academy following the opening of the Boxing Academy last January. As with the Boxing Academy, this is in partnership with a prominent local club (Salem Athletic), and hopes to enhance wider participation, healthy lifestyles, elite player development, as well as creating  ‘champion mind-sets’.  It will operate on week days (after 6pm) and weekends. Youth Speaking Competition

·         On Monday 22nd January, three groups of Year 9 and 10 students competed in the Regional Youth Speaks Competition at Woodhouse Grove School. This competition was organised and sponsored by Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland, and supported by the Carlton Bolling Interact Club. Students were responsible for preparing and rehearsing speeches on a topic of their choice, to be presented in front of an audience from grammar schools across Bradford, and judged by a panel of professional public speakers. Our students performed admirably in all aspects of the competition, with the most positive feedback resulting from their preparation and passion in the delivery of their content.
