We were delighted to receive a visit from Taj Butt, Community Development Officer for the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation. The Foundation work closely with Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the Yorkshire Cricket Board to maximise opportunities for young people to enjoy the sport. The school is currently developing a programme whereby the Foundation will be using the facilities of the Carlton Cricket Academy when it opens later this year
Taj also kindly offered an invitation to our girls’ cricket to attend the official opening of the recently redeveloped Bradford Park Avenue Cricket facility which has had a huge investment to provide state of the art facilities for the City. Many dignitaries were in attendance, including Joe Root, Jonathan Bairstow, David Willey and Adil Rashid from Yorkshire and England, as well as the Chief Executive of Bradford Kirsten England and famous Yorkshireman and cricket umpire, Dickie Bird.
Whilst there, the team were able to train with professional coaches in the outdoor nets and make use of the fantastic new facilities.
The girls (and Mr Jaffary!) were not only starstruck, but amazed to be asked to appear in photographs with other guests as their fame preceded them – they really are becoming celebrities themselves! They returned to school absolutely thrilled with their day out said they will remember this day forever!
