On Saturday 18th November, our very own Year 10 student, James Gibson, competed in the Regional Young Chef Competition at Leeds City College. This competition was organised and promoted by Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland and sponsored by Filippo Berio. A fantastic panel of judges included MasterChef finalists Afsaneh Kaviani and Matt Healy, Tom Martin of Eric’s Pies, Ossett
CEO and Owner of Aagrah Group Dr Aslam MBE DL, and Bruce D’Agoia of Keelham Farm Shop. Also in attendance was the Lord Mayor of Leeds, DG Robert Morphet, Andrew Wilson (Rotary District 1040 Youth) and Gillian Poole (Rotary Young Chef District 1040 Officer). Carlton Bolling’s Miss Carpenter and Miss Garvey attended the event in support of James, and were very pleased with all of the delicious food they were able to sample!
James created a delicious starter of paprika prawns on bruschetta, a main course consisting of pork escalope, sweet potato mash and seasonal vegetables, and a mango cheesecake for dessert. The judges were very impressed with his confidence and initiative, and commended Carlton Bolling for helping him to prepare. All costs for the event were covered by the Rotary Club of Bradford, in support of Miss Carpenter’s Carlton Bolling Interact Club.
